The long Luna path has been about 3.5 years, starting as a coffee shoppe in deepest darkest southern Africa, where Shomon, Syd Kitchen and Roly Struckmeyer first poured petrol on the small fire of live, original South African music up in the hills of Durban. (you'll soon learn who these people are)
and what the hell do we know? All we wanted to do was throw a decent party! next thing you know, a love affair is born… us, as in we all, and the music, gathering the people around, romancing the fire, like an arbitrary saturday braai or barbecue, like a wedding, like a giant plasma screen showing the latest game of rugby, footie, whatever absorbs your attention. Except this is no TV... this game is not rigged and the footage not edited by the CIA.
These are real people, singing the same shit their ancestors used to sing, and their ancestors before them. They are people of character, people with colour, with personality, fully prepared to stand up in front of everyone and let loose the passionate fire that made them.
Without hesitation, we admit that the music coming out of our very own basement studios, garages and lounge rooms, and of course, live music venues is far richer, wiser and far more entertaining than most of the crap you'd hear on mainstream radio...!
Sometimes there's a huge bonfire burning at Luna Lounge, sometimes there's even slightly drunk people dancing! (we mostly do this for fun!)
Aye, its probably not for everyone. Musicians often require a lot of attention and I certainly didn't know I had that much in me! But just as our ancestors enjoyed them, live performances create a unique, fleeting environment and a sense of community often missed, and will at the very least provide a wholesome, challenging and perhaps even mildly intellectual diversion from the usual Friday night piss pot parade!
