Laurie Levine Artists Name : Laurie Levine
Members : Laurie Levi time
Description : Laurie Levine, a 2007 SAMA (South African Music Award) nominee, is fast building a reputation as an artist with a fresh approach and unique sound. A prolific songwriter with a jazzy, soulful voice that breathes life into her songs and embodies the emotional core of her lyrics, Lauries music comes from the heartspace, the word poet Breyten Breytenbach uses to describe South Africas anguished beauty. Her songs touch our unspoken corners; her sounds are a contemporary interpretation of true folk. Lauries debut album, Unspoken, draws on personal tales of longing and hope to render an atmospheric and eclectic terrain. Unspoken, an entirely independent release, was nominated for a 2007 SAMA in the hotly contested category of Adult Contemporary English. Laurie has just completed her second album, entitled Living Room. It was produced by Dan Roberts and was released in September 2009 by Seed- an imprint of Sheer music. The album, with its blend of Nashville verve and "Nu Folk"

Josie Field Artists Name : Josie Field
Members : Josie, Kevin, Max... and the other guy
Description : Josie Fields debut album, Mercury, released in South Africa in 2006 and sold over 7 000 units in her home territory alone - an astounding achievement for the debut album by a previously unknown artist. The first single off Mercury was Every Now And Then, which went to number 1 on 5 FMs chart and was also at number 1 on listener-voted Hi5 @ 5 for 7 weeks. The second single, 10 Years went to number 2 on 5FM and stayed on the number 1 spot on the Hi 5 @ 5 for 3 weeks. Combined, these 2 singles, have achieved over 120 000 units in compilation sales and downloads. Leyland, released 8th September 2008, is a major leap forward, showing a more mature side to a young artist who has come into her own over the past 2 years. An older, more confident and braver Field is born, and many aspects of Leyland unveil the determination and single-mindedness of a young artist destined for a great career in music. Josie Field has recently finished a music video for the second single off the album called Law of Attraction which is set to hit air waves and TV screens at the end of November 2008. Leyland is an album that has clearly blossomed from experiences of a growing artist. Its a bizarre, symbiotic mix of folk, country, rap and pop. Leyland looks set to be the album that will elevate Josie to the next level. For the last four years Josie has been gigging her way into the hearts of thousands with her honest and engaging performances. Most recently, Josie was invited by James Blunt, to be the opening act for his sell out 2008 James Blunt All The Lost Souls tour. This proved an amazing, and hugely impactful event for the young star, and one which also helped prove her capabilities and professional attitude towards her craft amongst the industry and public who witnessed her near show-stealing performances. This tour was Josies last trip to Durban and ever since May 2008 Josie has been dying to get back down to Durban where she finds audiences extremely supportive and passionate. Josie commented on the James Blunt show at the botanic gardens, I really enjoyed the Durban crowd the best, even though it was raining and everyone was under umbrellas, the Durbanites were so enthusiastic.

Shomon Artists Name : Shomon
Members : Shomon & Miss Keys
Description : Performing only her own original compositions is a brave move for anyone in the music industry. Her non-commercial, yet deeply moving lyrics and melodies have been described by the media and fellow musicians as meaningful, nourishing, igniting all the senses, unique, unpredictable, beautiful, necessary and magical. Shomon and music are synonymous, she doesn't play the piano, her fingers make love to the keyboard, as she transports her audience into another dimension, usually with goosebumps! Her voice is Shomon's most powerful instrument, transforming her from a gentle healing angel into a powerful and raunchy "rock chick" in the space of a few bars. Shomon's lyrics reflect and reveal the reality of her own personal journey through life, with her observations, feelings and emotions laid bare, allowing her audience to recognise and embrace many things within themselves. It is not so much a performance, but rather an awesome experience, for both the artist and her audience.

Thomas Krane Artists Name : Thomas Krane
Members :
Description : thomas krane began as a bedroom recording project in a small coastal town called amanzimtoti in 2008. back then it had one member, a guitar, a microphone, and a computer. it now has five members, several instruments, and an album. great excitement. sonically, thomas krane currently falls somewhere between the moldy peaches and elliott smith, but that may change now that there is a full band. who can be sure really? for now though, if pretty acoustic guitar, curious lyrics in multiple harmony, and a playful approach to song construction sounds like your thing, then there is the possibility you might not be disappointed.

Croc E Moses Artists Name : Croc E Moses
Members : Poet on Strike
Description : Imagine a drummer turning to poetry. That's croc e moses. Mysterious. Clever fool. Born in sub arctic Canada, he has now been based in Southern Africa (Swaziland and South Africa) for more than half his life. His performance is rhythm driven. It is word music, the music of word, talking song. His delivery borders on incantation. With oodles of poly-rhythms, a soothing accent, and lots of word play, he draws his audience into many different ways of experiencing words. You will be inspired to listen! He takes lots of risks in his content and with his imagination. He draws upon exposure to extremes. His work is serious, sensitive, deep, sometimes profound, but equally flippant and possibly humorous! It is inspired work and it rubs off. He aspires to levity, to lift whoever is willing to listen. Over the last eight years he has independently produced and released a volume of poetry (Twilight Sunburn 2004), a music CD (Mellowdrama 2006) and a book (Through 2008). He has performed at festivals, open mics, fund raisers, birthday party's, exhibition openings and solo gigs mainly in South Africa, but also as far as New York, Dublin, Copenhagen, England, Mozambique, and Swaziland! Highlights include Grahamstown Festival, South Africa, in 2001, The Aldeburgh Music Festival and Latitude Festival, United Kingdom in 2007, and Bushfire Festival, Swaziland 2008.

Toi Toi Toy Artists Name : Toi Toi Toy
Members : Milli, Bheki, Axel & Njabulo
Description : A cocktail of tribal beats, classic jazz and alternative rock on unusual instruments presented with experience from years of playing with these toys in different fields ...... I SAW THEM ... Take one eclectic and talented master trumpeter, add a djembe whipped into a controlled frenzy by an earthy woman, throw in a German ukulele player with nimble fingers, and lastly take a bass guitarist with incredible riffs and you have the recipe for the magnificent feast that toi toi toy is... Unusual they definitely are, with sounds that encompass jazz, rock, folk, and world music with an African flavour, however, when I caught them fronting for Maisha at the drum shack in Durban, they sure had the crowd partaking in the feast, with songs getting vociferous calls of appreciation and melodies that carried us away on their unforgettable polyrhythmic waves... Bheki Luthuli (trumpet), Milli Memela (djembe and vocals ), Axel Batsch (ukulele, vocals and African cowhide drum), Njabulo Hlongwane (bass guitar), make up this unlikely collection of instruments, sounds and personnel that go by this enigmatic name. The group's creativity is overflowing, seen by their explanation of their name. in German "toi toi toi" means good luck. to "toi toi" is to dance with revolutionary fervour and finally the "toy" refers to the joy that playing these instruments gives them, alluding to their 'toys' I guess...
